To a horror film with a murderer, the murderer's costume is a very important piece which needs extensive planing (considering horror films wouldn't be as scary if the killer was were a ridiculous get up now would they?) so we have begun the planning for our killers costume design. With this in mind we do not want to fall in to the genre staple 'trap' of having a ridiculous amount of 'creep factor' in a place where it wouldn't seem as subtle, subtly is key here or at least in my personal opinion. So I believe the best kind of costume would be something subtle. Done to perhaps make the appearance slightly obscure. One case of a film using this (even though the director took it a bit extreme) is the nightmare on elm street films, in where the main antagonist haunts the dreams of his victims. His appearance is rather off putting, he has the body of a man just all burnt and scarred. (here is a picture of him)
Read over this post- I don't think it entirely makes sense?
ReplyDeleteHow does this example represent the subtlety you're after?
